Description

The "Coke & Mentos" Prank Gadget

This clever little device uses the classic Mentos-and-Coke reaction to create a hilarious "spray-on-open" prank. With a few simple parts and a bit of glue, you can turn any ordinary soda bottle into a surprise fountain.

The design cleverly utilizes the space between the cap and the bottle neck to hide a mint Mentos at the top. Using a precise system of claws and guide slots, the Mentos stays securely in place and out of sight. From the outside, it looks like a perfectly normal bottle of Coke. However, the moment the "victim" twists the cap, the internal mechanism releases, dropping the Mentos into the soda. The result? An instant eruption of bubbles and a spectacular soda fountain that is as funny as it is surprising.

Note: This device is designed for standard PCO 1881 (28mm) soda bottle necks. While the EU is transitioning to the GME 30.40 standard due to environmental regulations, the PCO 1881 remains the standard for the vast majority of soda bottles worldwide.

Nice design! After a decade of letting my brother think I forgot he spat a mouthful of irn-bru in my face - it's time to repay his kindness! Good effort!!

You can try using diet coke, which provides 0 calories of energy, so it is not considered food in the nutritional sense

No offense, but this can be done very simply and much more uncomplicatedly with just a thread. 1. Make the thread through the Mentos with a needle and tie it securely 2. Screw on the lid so that the remaining part of the thread is clamped 3. Lid on -> thread is released -> Mentos falls I wanted to make something similar for this competition at first, but then I came across this trick on the internet But for those who don't have thread or a needle at home, this would be something for them

Your suggestions are very good, I did not do enough thorough information retrieval, but I think this model of mine is also quite interesting, let's just consider it a design exercise

I also find your model immediately catches the eye compared to other models, solely because of the mechanics

🤦🏻‍♂️I mean, why buy a 3D printer when you can just melt plastic with a soldering iron and draw each layer, less complicated than a well designed item that does the same thing with less effort😂

Hello, my son loved the idea of this model, but he was wondering if you could make a reusable model (so you wouldn’t have to keep reprinting them), and more of a snap fit design so you didn’t risk glue getting into the drink. He and I both love this concept, so if you would consider making a version 2, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your and your son's appreciation of this work, I will try to design a new work with a snap-fit structure. However, due to the overly smooth flat opening structure of Coca-Cola, several snap-fit designs I have tried before could not achieve the intended function well, and the precision of FDM 3D printers also limits the reliability of small mechanical structures. I am not a mechanical engineer, I design models purely by intuition, and I will try to redesign it if I have better ideas in the future. Since I have set an open-source license for this model, friends who see this model and have better ideas can improve upon it.

Actually, this model is suitable for all printers, as it is very small. I will modify the information later

I have released a new print profile that supports gantry-style 3D printers like the A1 and A1 mini, and you can print it directly on Bambu Handy

It should be usable if the dimensions are appropriate. However, according to Wikipedia's introduction to Mentos, Mentos mints utilize their rough surface microstructure to release carbon dioxide from the cola. I am not sure if other types of mints also have suitable surface microstructures

@user_1298750339 what if you closed the cap after the mento dropped, would it blow up?

Actually, the air pressure inside the bottle won’t keep rising indefinitely. At a constant temperature, once the pressure inside the coke bottle reaches a certain limit, it will stop increasing. This is a basic thermodynamics problem, and you can Google "Henry's Law" for more information.

Quick question do people notice that the cap was already opened?

You can pretend you don't have enough strength to open the bottle cap and ask someone to help you.
