PolyCup – 3D Printable Airsoft Protective Cup
PolyCup is a 3D-printable protective cup designed specifically for airsoft use. The faceted outer shell increases structural rigidity and distributes impacts across multiple surfaces instead of concentrating force at the center.
The design uses a deep protective profile, creating additional distance between the impact point and the body. This allows the shell to flex slightly and spread energy across the structure before it reaches the wearer.
A wide perimeter lip creates a 360° protective seal, helping the cup sit comfortably against the body without requiring a jockstrap or compression shorts.
Ventilation holes improve airflow and help reduce heat buildup during extended use.

Wearing Options
PolyCup is designed to work without a jockstrap.
Option 1 – Underwear Hold
- Place the cup directly against the groin.
- Put on snug boxer briefs or athletic underwear to hold it in place.
Option 2 – Sandwiched
- Put on snug underwear.
- Place the cup over the groin area.
- Wear another pair of snug underwear over it to hold it securely.
Because of the deeper design, the cup may not fit inside some compression-short cup pockets.

Material: PETG or ABS
Walls / Perimeters: 6
Infill: 30%
Layer Height: 0.2 mm
Nozzle: 0.4 mm or larger
Supports: Auto Tree Supports Enabled
PLA is not recommended because it can become brittle under impact.
Size Scaling (Outer Width)
Use uniform scaling so all dimensions adjust automatically.
Teen: 75 mm
Adult: 85 mm
XL: 95 mm
Scaling smaller than teen size will reduce strength because wall thickness and reinforcement geometry become thinner.
Intended Use
PolyCup is intended for airsoft protection where BB impacts are common.
This is an experimental 3D-printed design and is not safety-certified protective equipment. Use at your own risk.
Current testing status
PolyCup has been tested extensively for airsoft impacts and is currently recommended only for that application. It has not been formally tested for higher-impact sports such as hockey, baseball, lacrosse, martial arts, or similar activities.
If you choose to use PolyCup in an application outside its current testing scope, you do so entirely at your own risk. I cannot recommend or endorse its use for untested sports.

Information such as the sport, print material and settings, duration of use, comfort, any significant impacts, and whether the cup showed any damage or performance issues will help guide future development and determine where PolyCup performs well—or where it should not be used.
