No this is a redesign of the original it comes with, I made the clips that secure it to the overflow half the size of the original allowing it to sit lower in the water and still functioning the way it’s intended. Its nothing drastic but rule of thumb is keeping the water level at least 1” lower then the lid to avoid salt creep and this mod allows that. Hopefully this explanation helps.

@Migzzzzz658 Similar question - as my Evo 13.5 did not come with the original part and I'm not sure I understand how it works/what function it performs to help versus water just going through the overflow slots... any tips on configuration, or is it just snap in and go? I'm printing one out right now to put in the tank so I can tinker and understand :) I'm not sure why Fluval didn't include the original, as it isn't in my box or on the included parts list. They were heavily pushing the Fluval PS2 Mini Protein Skimmer in the included published inserts and box images as an add-on though.

It’s honestly nothing super special it snaps right on and slides up and down. It’s meant to just skim the surface water and keep it clean so you don’t have that oily look at the top of your tank. It works best if you keep it about an 1/8 to 1/4 of inch lower then the top of your water line where the water would just about flow over top of it into the back chamber and not be able to flow back into the display. I’ve also made the clips half the length on this one because I like to keep my water level about an inch lower than the top of the tank to prevent salt creep on my lid. The protein skimmer they have for it is cool but I honestly think it’s useless for a tank this size but that’s just my opinion.
