Description

The Return of Medusa

Some heroes fight monsters.
Others simply print them.

Meet Medusa, one of the most iconic creatures of Greek mythology. Known for turning heroes into stone with a single glance, she has terrified legends for centuries.

But this time the story changes.

Instead of turning people into stone… Medusa becomes a statue herself – ready to guard your desk, shelf, or wall.

This model was designed as a relief sculpture with a base, allowing two different display options:

• Hang it on the wall as decorative relief
• Place it on a desk or shelf thanks to the integrated base

The flowing snakes, detailed face, and rune frame create strong textures and depth, making the model perfect for painting and dry brushing.

And don’t worry – this version of Medusa only turns filament into art, not visitors into stone.

Print Settings

I printed the model using the following settings:

Material: Black PLA
Layer Height: 0.16 mm
Orientation: Printed upright
Supports: Required
Support Type: Tree Supports

Printing the model upright helps preserve the fine details of the snakes and the face.

It might also be possible to print the model lying flat, but I have not tested that orientation.

Finishing – The Metallic Way

After printing, Medusa received a metallic dry-brush finish.

Face & Skin

Light dry brushing with Metallic Silver to create an elegant stone-like look.

Snakes & Hair

Painted with Metallic Copper, which gives the snakes a beautiful warm tone.

Diadem

A mix of Metallic Gold and Bronze to highlight the crown.

Base

Dry brushed with Metallic Bronze for a strong antique finish.

Rune Frame

The outer runes were highlighted with Brass, which contrasts beautifully with the black PLA.

All colors were applied using dry brushing, which really makes the details stand out.
