Rocky the Eridian - Project Hail Mary

Bring everyone's favorite alien engineer to your desk! This model captures Rocky, the brilliant Eridian from Project Hail Mary. Designed with his biologically accurate pentaradial (five-sided) symmetry, this figure features his thick, rock-like carapace and five limbs, with one raised in a friendly Eridian greeting (or perhaps asking a question!).

The slightly faceted, low-poly design gives the carapace a great textured, rocky look that catches the light beautifully and prints cleanly.

Model Features

  • Accurate Anatomy: Features the central carapace and five multi-jointed limbs.
  • Dynamic Pose: Stands entirely on its own with one limb raised.
  • Great for Desk Display: Perfect size for a companion while you work on your own engineering problems. Amaze!

Recommended Print Settings

  • Material: PLA or PETG work perfectly for this. A matte or marble filament would look incredible for his rock-like texture.
  • Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm to capture the geometric facets of the shell and joints.
  • Infill: 10% - 15% is plenty (Lightning or Gyroid recommended).
  • Supports: Yes. You will need supports for the underbelly of the carapace and the raised arm. Snug or organic/tree supports are highly recommended for easy removal without scarring the legs.

Amase amase amase! These came out awesome I used a sandstone PLA for mine to give him and even better rock look. I tried printing it with my smooth plate first and the legs had a bit of trouble staying on the build plate but when I switched to my textured plate it worked great

Turned out magnificently, printed with 0.12mm layers using elegoo basic PLA. I did increase the brim around legs to 7mm just in case. Nothing came loose. :) Amaze amaze amaze!

I printed this out with Elegoo PLA Marble Cement Gray. One of the arms fell off mid-print but I was able to work with it. Overall I like the attention to detail.

It’s no worry at all. It gave me an excuse to use my mini drill 😊
