Description

A VERY LOUD air horn/membranophone that uses a balloon as the diaphragm. A larger version of my small air horn. Great at sporting events, but don't point it at others when you're too close - that would be a good way to "start a conversation" (it is VERY loud).

I tried a few of the other air horns/membranophones out there but they tended to hurt my ears too much as there was no rearward protection for the user, so I designed a system that incorporates a deflector on the ring that holds the membrane/balloon on to the body. It deflects the vibration from the rear of the diaphragm back toward the front of the horn. Still just as loud out the front, but much easier on my ears at the back.

Assembly is very easy:

Cut a piece of balloon and stretch it over the back end of the chamber (fully open end). Hold it in place while you place the deflector cap on to hold it in place. The tighter you stretch the balloon, the higher the pitch. I get louder results with a tighter stretch and with thicker balloons.

Fit the horn into the other end of the chamber. Point it in a safe direction and blow into the mouthpiece.

There are three different sized horns here. The smaller one is much handier. The large one is a proper full mega-horn shape so amplifies properly and is definitely loudest. The medium 250mm horn is almost as loud as the full horn but will fit in a P1P, P2S, X1C etc. There is also an extension for the horn. The more extensions you add, the lower the pitch - also easier to blow as there's more back-pressure in the horn. Add three or four extensions and it sounds like a fog horn.

Designed so all parts will print without supports, but the large mega-phone horn can benefit from support just inside the rim.

Super horn for sports events. Very loud and easy to blow. I scaled it to 90% for the A1 mini. I also adjusted the colors a bit and put the GWD Minden logo on the end cap. Great print!

One more question for the creator. In the photos and description, there's mention of extensions. However, I couldn't find them anywhere? Are there adapter pieces for extension? LG

This horn is absolute amazing. I printed the middle size with one extension. I made it as a part of my cosplay as a steampuunk trader to let people know when I'm "coming to town". The sound is deep and full an no one would think that it is only a plastic thing which produces this sonore tone. Now that I know the sound I would like to extend the horns part in my costume and wear it as a backpack version: Can you please, please add an extension in a 90 degree "corner" version like the pipe on the pic?

Thanks so mush for the comments, I appreciate it. I think I've cracked it with a bent extension. Looks about the same dimensions as your picture, but you might need to trim it a bit in your slicer. It's going to lower the tone about twice as much as a straight extension. A hose as a blowpipe extension would keep it loud and raucous ;)

Thanks a lot for your work. The next boost tokens I get will be yours. Thanks for the hose tip. I already planned to use a hose as a mouth piece extension, because I'm wearing a mask, which makes it impossible to use the horn "as it is". I'm so enthusiastic about this simple thing working so unexpected well, that it will be hard to stop printing before I am wrapped in a horn from head to toe ;)

I printed this because I like to make noise. OMG I gave it a little air, it’s loud! It’s impressive. I am gonna give it to my grandson.

works great! I use it in a warehouse to signify lunch time. It would be awesome if it had a connector for a standard air fitting as opposed to just the tube. thank you!

I've used mine with a compresor during testing. No adaptor though - I just used a piece of hose on the mouthpiece and jammed an air blower fitting in the hose. It stuck quite nicely. You really don't need many KPa (or PSI) to get it going nicely.

I had just printed the smaller horn with one attachment. This is the best horn that I have ever tried! Mine was all printed on the P1S and I really want to print the megahorn but its too big... Is it possible if you could design one megahorn for the P series printers, please.

Hi Carlo, I'm glad you like the model. I've just added a medium horn (250mm) which should fit the P1S without having to change any configuration settings. Because of the design, resizing the length doesn't really work well because it changes reflection angles, but trimming works well enough to a degree. The more trimming from the open end there is, the less effective the amplification is. This one is still over 80% of the original so it will be far more effective than the shorty, but not quite as loud as the full megaphone horn.

Hi Carlo, I've just rectified an error in the diameter of the neck of the medium horn. The replacement will now fit properly in the chamber.

is there something wrong with my Bambu account or something? despite the description and other comments saying they printed the medium size, I only see have the option between 2 print profiles, both of which have only one size horn and neither of which have the extensions the description speaks about @smackie39

Limited print profiles, but the other models/files are available to download when you change the dropdown from 'Download 3MF' to 'Download STL/CAD files'

My sincere apologies Jones in Mobile, there's no adapter: all 3 horns are derived from the one full megaphone model, but I failed to apply a trimming sleeve to the neck of the medium horn before I uploaded it. I've rectified the shortfall with the diameter of the neck insert now 37.5mm on the medium, as it is on the short and mega. I hope the new Medium is loud enough for you - it's definitely louder than the Short that is part of the "complete" package.

I printed the horn and love it. I’m looking for the extension and don’t see it, though.

Oh yes! Even with the deflector I need earplugs to use it. I tried it with compressed air once. Once. Don't use compressed air if you're indoors.
