Description

This basketball was born from a 3D design challenge to create a complex, multi-color sphere with perfectly smooth surfaces using only flat-printed parts.

The result is a miniature basketball assembled around a unique interlocking skeleton structure that requires no supports, no waste, no glue, and no AMS.

The design includes two different basketball panel patterns and optional panels for a keychain loop or custom text, making it easy to personalize.

The pieces slide together like a puzzle and lock into place around the internal core to form a complete sphere.

Pattern 1 - Assembly Instructions

Place the two core halves in the same orientation.
Rotate one half 90°.
Hold the core together with the flat bases facing each other.
No glue is required, as the panels will lock the core in place.
Start sliding the 8 panels into the core.
The panels are printed as 4 mirrored pairs.
Panels can be replaced with the keychain panel or custom text panel.
If used as a keychain, securing the panels with a small amount of glue is recommended.
After inserting all panels, press firmly to seat them tightly.

Pattern 2 - Assembly Instructions

Place the two core halves in the same orientation.
Hold the core together, ensuring the holes in both parts align.
No glue is required, as the panels will lock the core together.
Slide the 4 white panels into the continuous curved channels.
Insert the 8 red panels between the channels to complete the pattern.
Panels can be replaced with the keychain panel or custom text panel.
If used as a keychain, securing the panels with a small amount of glue is recommended.
After placing all panels, press firmly to seat them tightly.

Printing Notes

The provided profiles were tested on the Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack using Bambu Matte filament.

For a realistic basketball texture, try White Marble and Red Granite filament.
