William III of Orange (Willem Hendrik van Oranje) – Bust

This bust represents William III of Orange, born Willem Hendrik van Oranje (1650–1702), Prince of Orange and a major figure in European history during the 17th century. He served as Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic and later became King of England, Scotland, and Ireland following the Glorious Revolution of 1688, a pivotal event that reshaped the balance of power in Britain and strengthened the role of Parliament.

Inspired by the most widely recognized portrait of the ruler, this bust captures William III’s distinctive appearance: his determined expression, strongly defined facial features, and the long curled hair typical of the aristocratic style of his time. The calm and frontal posture reflects the authority and dignity of a leader who spent much of his life opposing the expansion of Louis XIV’s France and defending the political balance of Europe.

Designed as a faithful sculptural interpretation, the bust emphasizes the structure and volumes of the face along with the characteristic clothing elements of the late 17th century, including the noble drapery and formal attire. The result is a timeless representation of William III, highlighting his historical importance both in the Netherlands and within the British monarchy.
