Description
This Megalosaurus is based on a historical reconstruction from the mid-19th century (approx. 1850). At that time, the dinosaur was depicted very differently from today's scientific models.
Early paleontologists speculated that Megalosaurus was a four-legged, heavily built animal that moved more like a large reptile. It was not until many decades later that Megalosaurus was recognized as a bipedal theropod.
This model therefore deliberately shows the historical conception of this dinosaur and reflects the scientific understanding of the time. Such reconstructions are an exciting example of how our knowledge of dinosaurs has changed over time.
