Description

This adapter replaces the ball mount connection on Ikelite housing handles with a strong attachment point for a rope, lanyard, or clip.

Instead of mounting a strobe arm ball, the adapter fits into the existing mount and is secured using the original Ikelite locking mechanism.

This allows you to attach:

  • a lanyard or rope
  • a bolt snap
  • a carabiner
  • a safety tether

Useful for clipping your camera rig to a BCD, boat line, or gear tether during dives.

Design

The adapter consists of three printed parts:

  • left shaft part
  • right shaft part
  • locking nut

The shaft is split into two halves so the parts can be printed with optimized layer orientation, improving strength in the load direction.

Inside the shaft there is an alignment connector that positions both halves precisely during assembly.

The parts hold together mechanically, but they can optionally be glued if a permanent assembly is desired.

Printing

Print this part strong. It may carry expensive camera equipment and is exposed to water pressure during dives.

Recommended settings:

  • 100% infill
  • 4–6 walls
  • strong materials such as PETG, ASA, or PETG-CF

The prototype was printed in PETG-CF (carbon fiber reinforced PETG).

The high infill also helps reduce internal air pockets and improves strength when used at depth (e.g. ~30 m).

Disclaimer

Use at your own risk.

This is a 3D-printed plastic part used to secure expensive equipment underwater. Always inspect the part before diving and ensure it is printed strong enough for your setup.
