What Am I Looking At?
A keychain for holding your lip balm that’s durable and easily accessible! I’ve had one clipped to my belt loop everyday for months now and it’s still going strong (and my lips have never felt so cared for).
- There are print profiles for some different brands/sizes/styles of lip balms you might have handy.
Source Material:
The idea to split the lid into three parts to take advantage of the strength of layer lines was inspired by Node Dojo’s bolt generator, but that’s about it on this one!
Alternative Model Options!
I have other styles of these posted and even more in the works, check out the collection to see what's out already and follow to stay updated. If you have any requests for other textures or lid styles, just let me know!
Assembly Instructions:

The two lid inserts slide back to back through the hole in the lid, their combined base will slot into the hexagon on the bottom of the lid. Once they’re through, you’ll need to put either a keychain, paracord, or something similar through the holes in both inserts to keep them in place.

That step might be easier if you can put a lip balm in the holder and then screw on the lid with the inserts in place and ready to go. The lip balm will help keep the little inserts from slipping all the way out of the lid as you run the keychain through the holes.
I used a keyring on mine and have a youtube short how-to that should help if you have troubles (not great quality, sorry! I will remake it at some point)
Notes:
- The sizes are what they are so that the lip balm slides in and out easily without moving around too much, which tends to make a clicking sound that can get kind of annoying. Making them narrower minimizes the clicking but also creates more of a vacuum effect that can make it slow (or impossible) to get the lip balm back out. Choose other sizes than the recommended and/or scale at your own risk.
Print Settings:
- I use Variable Layer Height and then lower that variable height to the minimum for the threads on the tube piece and for every layer on the lid pieces.
- Wall Generator - Arachne
- Initial Layer Flow Ratio - 1.02
- Wall Loops - 3
- Bottom Surface Pattern
- on Lid Inserts - Concentric (gives better coverage than other options)
- on other parts - I think Octagram Spiral looks really cool, but you do you.
- Sparse Infill Density - 85%
- Sparse Infill Pattern - Gyroid
