Montessori Sound & Smell Cylinders with Trays

This is a comprehensive Montessori sensorial set designed to refine a child's hearing and smelling senses. This 3D-printable version offers a durable, customizable alternative to traditional wooden sets, perfect for homeschooling environments or classrooms.

How it Works

The set is designed for matching and grading exercises:

• The Set: Two matching sets of six cylinders (red and blue) and two dedicated storage trays to keep the materials organized.
• Sound Matching: The child matches pairs by shaking them to find identical sounds.
• Smell Matching: Using the specialized vented lids, the child can match scents (like cinnamon, lavender, or coffee) by smelling the cylinders.
• Grading: For an extra challenge, children can line them up from strongest to weakest scent or loudest to softest sound.

Built-in Control of Error

To encourage independent learning and confidence, these cylinders include a "Control of Error":

• Self-Correction: Each cylinder features a number (1–6) embossed on the bottom.
• The Check: After matching, the child flips the cylinders over; if the numbers match, they know they are correct!

Print Profile Details

I have optimized this print profile to include everything you need:

• Tray: A custom-fit tray to hold the cylinders securely.
• Interchangeable Lids:
  • Solid Lids: For the Sound Cylinders to keep materials contained.
  • Vented Lids: Feature small holes specifically for the Smell Cylinders.
• Material: Printed in PLA.
• Safety: You can leave the lids as a friction fit to change materials later, or use superglue for a permanent, child-safe seal.
