Description

RV Cabin Privacy Blinds by VicPupetto

Summary

My goal was to design a solution that is quick to install, easy to operate, and—most importantly—requires no drilling into the RV structure. Inspired by expensive commercial pleated blinds, I decided to create a DIY version. While professional systems can be pricey, this project costs less than 10 Euro!

Materials Used

  • Blinds: 4 "SCHOTTIS" pleated blinds from IKEA (€2.90 each).
  • Structure: Two 1m x 8mm aluminum tubes (sourced from Leroy Merlin).
  • Custom Parts: 3D-printed components designed for the Fiat Ducato cabin (tested on a 2014 X250/X290 model, but likely compatible with many others).
  • Hardware: Two 6mm screws to connect the 3D-printed parts to the tubes.

Assembly Tips

  • Drilling: Be extremely careful when drilling through the blinds. Since they are made of a stiff paper-like material, they are difficult to drill through quickly. I recommend drilling each fold individually for a clean finish.
  • Current Design: In this version, the bottom of the blind simply rests on the dashboard. I may update this in the future to include two additional guide tubes at the bottom.
  • Side Windows: These were custom-cut to match the window shape. The adhesive edge is tucked securely under the rubber window seal. I also designed two clips to hold the curtains in place when folded.

Work in Progress

Please keep in mind that this is a prototype. I am currently designing covers for the upper tubes to give the cabin a more finished, integrated look.

There are two versions of the curtain locks:

  1. A standard version for the front windshield and bottom support.
  2. A specialized version that slides into the upper door frame to secure the side blinds when retracted.
