Rocky from Project Hail Mary (Book-Accurate) - 3D Printed Statue

Description

Fist me! (Wait, that’s not right... fist bump).

If you are a fan of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary, you know that the visual depiction of Rocky in the upcoming movie is going to be different from the mental image most readers formed while reading the book. This model is my take on the book-accurate version of Rocky, designed strictly from the descriptions provided in the novel.

He is a spider-like, pentagonal being with a stone-like carapace, and yes, I’ve included his signature tunic. This model is a static display piece—he won't move or repair your spaceship, but he will look great on your desk.

This design is optimized for both single-color printing and multi-color setups, so you can get that iconic look right off your print bed.

File Details

I have included three distinct .3mf files to ensure everyone can print this, regardless of their hardware:

  • Single Color (A1 Mini): Optimized for smaller build plates and single-nozzle printers.
  • Single Color (P1S): Pre-configured settings for the P1S/Bambu ecosystem.
  • Multi-Color (P1S + AMS): The full-color version to capture the vibrant green of his tunic against his rocky skin.

Helpful Resources & Tutorials

To help you get the best print possible, I’ve put together some guides:

  • How to remesh and color prints effectively: If you want to customize your own color schemes for the tunic or the carapace, check out my tutorial here: https://youtu.be/8JV66MnJp-4
  • Scaling & Orientation: If you want to print a life-sized (or smaller) Rocky, use these techniques for scaling and cutting: https://youtu.be/Ckvo10JxrcEg

Potential Remixes & Use Cases

This model is a great base for various creative projects. If you choose to remix or repurpose this design, here are some keywords to use so others can find your work:

  • Diorama Building: Perfect for Project Hail Mary diorama scenes. Keywords: Sci-Fi Diorama, Space Setting, Eridian architecture.
  • Custom Painting: If you prefer hand-painting over multi-color printing, use tags like: Figure Painting, Miniature Display.
  • Prop Making: You could print this at a larger scale for a cosplay accessory or convention display. Keywords: Cosplay Prop, Convention Display, Sci-Fi Creature.
  • Stop Motion: Since it's a static model, it works great as a base if you want to articulate it for stop-motion animation. Keywords: Stop Motion Puppet, Character Animation.
