First Alert Smoke / CO Alarm Pole Tool

Stop wobbling on ladders just to swap a battery, or replace a smoke alarm! This tool allows you to safely remove and reinstall your ceiling-mounted smoke detectors from the ground using a standard telescopic pole.

Designed specifically for the popular First Alert battery-operated series, this mount grips the detector securely, allowing you to twist it on or off its base plate with ease.

Before printing, please ensure your detector matches these specs:

• Brand: First Alert (Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors).
• Model Type: Battery-operated units.
• Diameter: 137mm (This fits the most popular "large" residential units).
• Pole Fit: Designed for standard  ACME 7/8"  threaded Painter’s Telescopic Pole.

Print Recommendations

• Material: (PETG or ASA) & TPU is recommended for better durability and slight flexibility, though PLA & TPU will work fine for occasional use.
• Walls: 2 wall loops for structural integrity around the pole threads. Only one wall loop for premeter structure to minimize the support during printing and increase strength. 
• Infill: 15%.
• Supports: The provided “print profile” is designed to block the use of support on the threads, as the threads are printed without properly without support. 

How to Use

Assemble the tool: place the TPU ring inside the “grabber” plate and pass the loops through the slots (pictures provided). Then pass the small bone shaped TPU parts into the loops, so that the TPU ring stays in place even when is stuck to the smoke alarm.

1. Thread the printed tool onto your telescopic pole.
2. Extend the pole and align the tool with the smoke detector.
3. Press upward gently to seat the detector into the tool.
4. To Remove: Twist counter-clockwise.
5. To Install: Align the detector to the base plate and twist clockwise until it clicks into place.

Always test your smoke detector using the "Test" button after reinstallation to ensure it is properly powered and seated. Although the material used is not electrically conductive, the telescopic pole might be, so do not get it close to the power lines or exposed power wiring!
