Description

The Panzer IV Ausf. G was a mid-war variant of the Panzer IV, developed by Germany during World War II. Introduced in 1942, the Ausf. G marked a significant improvement in firepower by mounting the long-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 (and later L/48) gun, enabling it to effectively engage Soviet T-34s and other Allied armored vehicles at greater distances. Additional armor plating was added to the front hull and turret to improve survivability, though this increased weight and mechanical strain. The Ausf. G also featured various production changes, including simplified design elements to streamline manufacturing as Germany shifted to a more urgent wartime economy. With over 1,600 units produced, the Panzer IV Ausf. G became one of the most important and widely used German tanks of the mid-war period.
