Print Profile(1)

Description
The Sunbird is also known as the Three-legged Golden Crow
Also known as Golden Crow, Zūn Wū, Yáng Wū, Chì Wū, it is a divine bird in Chinese mythology that pulls the sun chariot. Ancient people observed sunspots and imagined them as a black crow perched in the center of the crimson sun, surrounded by glittering "red light," hence the name "Golden Crow"
Its characteristic features are:
- Appearance: Similar to a crow, but large in size and shimmering with golden light all over
- Three Legs: Possesses three claws (originally two-legged, evolved into three legs in the late Western Han Dynasty to distinguish it from ordinary crows)
- Carrying Fire: Carries a fireball in its mouth, symbolizing the sun
Condensed into a cartoon image: sun head, luminous eyes, duck beak, three legs
A brief popular science article:
According to ancient texts such as the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Di Jun and Xihe gave birth to ten sons, which were ten Three-legged Golden Crows, residing on the Fusang tree in the eastern sea. They took turns rising from the Fusang, driven by their mother Xihe, passing through areas like Mount Qu'a, Zengquan, and Sangye, finally landing on the Ruomu divine tree in the west.
Later, the Golden Crows caused havoc, with ten suns appearing simultaneously, scorching the earth and making life unbearable for the people. The Celestial Emperor dispatched Hou Yi to descend to Earth, and he shot down nine Golden Crows, leaving only one sun. This is the famous myth of "Hou Yi Shooting the Suns."
