Ce buste représente Ivan Iakovytch Franko dans une interprétation sculpturale classique, limitée à la tête et au haut du torse, reposant sur un socle discret. Les volumes sont volontairement accentués : le front large, la moustache caractéristique et la structure marquée du visage confèrent à l’ensemble une présence intellectuelle forte. Les masses de cheveux et les plis du vêtement sont simplifiés afin de privilégier la lisibilité et la force des formes, dans l’esprit des sculptures commémoratives traditionnelles.
Le modèle est inspiré de la photographie la plus populaire du personnage, dont il conserve fidèlement les proportions et l’expression sérieuse et réfléchie.

Ivan Franko (1856-1916) fut l’un des plus grands écrivains et penseurs ukrainiens. Poète, romancier, dramaturge, journaliste et traducteur, il participa activement au renouveau culturel et politique de l’Ukraine à la fin du XIXᵉ siècle. Son œuvre immense, comprenant notamment Zakhar Berkut et une abondante poésie engagée, contribua à affirmer l’identité nationale ukrainienne et à diffuser des idées sociales modernes. Par son influence intellectuelle et littéraire, il demeure une figure majeure de la culture européenne orientale.

This bust depicts Ivan Yakovych Franko in a classical sculptural interpretation, limited to the head and upper torso and resting on a discreet pedestal. The volumes are deliberately emphasized: the broad forehead, distinctive mustache, and strong facial structure give the piece a powerful intellectual presence. Hair masses and garment folds are simplified to prioritize clarity and strength of form, in the spirit of traditional commemorative sculpture.
The model is inspired by the most popular photograph of the figure, faithfully preserving his proportions and thoughtful, serious expression.

Ivan Franko (1856–1916) was one of the greatest Ukrainian writers and thinkers. A poet, novelist, playwright, journalist, and translator, he played a major role in the cultural and political awakening of Ukraine at the end of the 19th century. His vast body of work, including Zakhar Berkut and a large corpus of socially engaged poetry, helped shape Ukrainian national identity and spread modern social ideas. Through his intellectual and literary influence, he remains a central figure in Eastern European cultural history.
