The PivotLock Cable Clamp is a robust print-in-place cable clip featuring a fully integrated hinge and mechanical locking mechanism. The clip comes completely assembled straight off the build plate – no additional parts and no post-assembly required.

The design is engineered for a balanced combination of holding force and controlled elasticity. When closed, the upper tongue precisely snaps over the locking tab, creating a clearly defined and tactile locking point. The clamp holds securely under normal pull load, yet can be intentionally opened by slightly pushing the tongue away from the lock with your thumb. This prevents accidental opening while keeping operation comfortable.

When closing, the clip produces a distinct, satisfying click. This crisp mechanical sound gives the clamp a premium feel and highlights its precise construction. Several testers even found themselves sliding it over their index finger and repeatedly opening and closing it just for fun – almost like a small fidget tool.

At its core is a true integrated hinge, not a simple flex joint. The rotational axis is carefully designed with a guided bearing area to ensure controlled force transfer without unnecessary stress concentrations.

The small pin in the hinge area is intentionally integrated. It acts as a print anchor so the inner hinge part does not start printing in mid-air but has a reliable contact surface on the build plate. The pin remains in place and simply rotates together with the hinge during use.

The geometry uses intentionally tight tolerances to achieve a precise, low-play hinge and a defined locking behavior. On well-calibrated printers, the hinge is typically freely movable right after printing. With very tight extrusion setups or uncalibrated filament, it may be necessary to let the part cool completely and then release the hinge with a controlled “click.” After that, it will operate smoothly and reliably.

The recommended print configuration focuses on functional performance: moderate wall thickness combined with reduced infill provides the required strength while maintaining comfortable flexibility in the locking area. After more than 200 open-and-close test cycles, the clamp shows stable long-term performance without noticeable material fatigue.

Print quality notice: If your print fails (for example spaghetti in the hinge area), in 99% of cases this is caused by a dirty or poorly prepared build plate and not by the model or print profile. The small hinge pin must adhere properly to the build plate so the inner hinge can be formed correctly. If this area does not stick reliably, the geometry cannot be built as intended. This is a physical limitation and cannot be prevented by the designer. Please ensure your build surface is clean and properly prepared.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The PivotLock Cable Clamp is a robust Print in Place cable clamp with an integrated, full-fledged hinge and mechanical locking. The clip comes fully assembled from the printer – no assembly, no additional parts.

The design is engineered for a balanced combination of holding force and controlled elasticity. When closed, the upper tongue precisely snaps over the retaining lug, creating a clearly defined, tactile locking point. The lock holds reliably under normal tensile load, but can be deliberately opened with the thumb by gently pushing the tongue away. This prevents unintentional opening without requiring excessive force.

When closing, a clearly audible, rich “click” is produced. This clear, mechanical sound conveys a high-quality, precise feel and emphasizes the clean construction of the clip. Several testers found themselves putting the clip over their index finger and repeatedly opening and closing it just for fun – almost like a small fidget tool.

The core is the real, integrated hinge. It is not a simple flex spring, but a structurally designed rotational axis with a cleanly guided bearing area. The geometry is designed so that forces are transferred in a controlled manner and no unnecessary stress peaks occur.

The small pin in the hinge area is deliberately integrated. It serves as a print anchor so that the inner hinge part does not start freely in the air during Print in Place, but receives a secure contact surface. The pin remains and simply rotates with it later.

The design was deliberately made with small tolerances to achieve a precise, play-free hinge and clean latching behavior. With cleanly calibrated printers, the hinge is usually freely movable immediately after printing. With very tight print tolerances, slightly over-extruding setups, or uncalibrated filaments, it may be necessary to let the component cool completely and then carefully release the hinge with a controlled “click”. After that, it will run reliably and permanently.

The recommended print configuration is deliberately designed for function: a moderate wall thickness in combination with reduced infill ensures the necessary stability while providing comfortable flexibility in the latching area. After more than 200 open and close test cycles, the clip shows stable, long-lasting function without noticeable material fatigue.

Note on print quality: Should the print not work for you (e.g., spaghetti in the hinge area), in 99% of cases this is due to a dirty or poorly adhering build plate and not the component or print profile. The small pin in the hinge must adhere reliably to the build plate so that the inner hinge can be built correctly. If this area does not get stable adhesion, the construction cannot be cleanly formed constructively. This is technically conditioned and cannot be prevented by the designer. Therefore, please pay close attention to a clean, well-prepared print surface.

Happy printing!

I have tried many cable clips Either poorly designed or they warp after a day. I've had this one in my hand constantly for 5 hours, opening/closing it permanently. The print-in-place hinge turned out really well and works cleanly without post-processing. Stable, well-thought-out, and finally a clip that convinces. 💪

Mega strong feedback, thank you! This was precisely the goal with the PivotLock: not a flimsy standard clip, but a cleanly designed print-in-place hinge with defined freedom of movement and sufficient material at the stress points. The fact that you've been opening and closing it for hours and it remains tight fills me with joy – the geometry is designed precisely for this purpose. And this is exactly the experience my testers and I have had ourselves – we have moved it intensely in daily use, opened, closed, and deliberately stressed it. The mechanism remains stable without loosening or deforming. With the same basic settings, the clip can also be printed excellently in PETG. Especially for other applications where a bit more temperature resistance or robustness is required, the material works very reliably in combination with the hinge. Thank you for your thorough testing and your trust!

it started pulling up the print. i went thru and cleaned the plate as instructed but would happen on every other job. i since have went and reset printer to factory settings and am running a test print. Hopefully that will do it.

I'm very sorry it was the printer had to reset it to factory setting after that all is good. Thanks so much and have a blessed day

These are fantastic. I printed about 15 of the two larger sizes. They work great with large/thick cables. Without cables they are extremely satisfying to open and close :)
