This is a half-scale full 3D replica of the recently publicised crest-bearing Spinosaurus mirabilis skull — measuring approximately 825mm from snout tip to rear of the skull when fully assembled.
This version reflects the newer interpretation making headlines — including the more pronounced cranial crest that’s been getting a lot of attention in recent media coverage.
The model is split into:
- 🧩 13 parts
- 📦 7 build plates (arranged in the supplied 3MF)
- ⚖️ ~2.7kg of filament
The main skull and lower jaw are separate parts, just like the smaller single-plate version.
🦷 Easier Support Removal
Thanks to the increased scale and thicker wall count, this version is significantly easier to remove supports around the teeth compared to the smaller edition:
- Stronger tooth bases
- More clearance for tools
- Less risk of snapping delicate tips
Take your time, work methodically — but this one is much more forgiving.
📏 About the Scale
The ~825mm length at half scale is based on current size estimates derived from the original Egyptian material of Spinosaurus mirabilis.
No complete skull has ever been recovered, so reconstructions remain based on comparative material and modern re-evaluation of Stromer’s original documentation.
In short — this is our best current interpretation of one of the most controversial and talked-about giant theropods in the world.
🛠 Printing & Assembly
For a structural piece this size:
- 🔥 ABS recommended
- 🧪 Acetone welding (neat + slurry) for strongest joins
- 🧩 Dry fit before bonding
- Avoid rushing alignment during glue-up
Other filaments work perfectly well — just use a strong adhesive suitable for the material.
The lower jaw remains a separate component for easier printing and finishing.
💀 Why Build This One?
- Full 360° skull (not a wall slice)
- Recently newsworthy species
- Crest-bearing variation
- Large-format printer flex
- Easier tooth cleanup than smaller versions
- Serious prehistoric centrepiece
I’ll be printing mine once the Triceratops clears the plates — but if you take it on first, I want to see it.
Tag your makes. Let’s see some proper giant spinosaur builds.
