Meteor-The FASTEST RC plane on Makerworld
Print Profile(1)

Description
Introducing the "Meteor"-a micro RC plane designed for pure speed!
The Meteor is (to my knowledge) the fastest RC plane that has ever been uploaded to Makerworld! This airplane can be printed and assembled in a matter of hours, and boasts incredible power, maneuverability, and speed! In order to reduce drag, the Meteor features an incredibly thin wing at only 5.5mm thick at its thickest point, allowing wing servos to be completely embedded within the wing! The use of radial bolts on the motor mounts allow for the ability to quickly swap motors at the field while keeping drag down for fast field repairs! If you want a serious adrenaline rush, this is the plane for you!
This is the first airplane I have designed and came back in one piece, so I am very excited to share it with the world!
IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER AIRPLANE! This plane is extremely small and fast, and may be difficult to see even for experienced pilots!
Specifications
Top speed: 350km/h(good luck seeing it above 250km/h, I speak from experience flying this thing myself)
Stall speed: 25-35km/h(estimated)
Flight time: 2-5 min
Wingspan: 500mm
Wing area: 3.6dm^2
Length: 470mm
Printed weight: 90-140g
Assembled weight w/o battery: 130-210g
Flying weight: 200-350g
Required Parts:
Hardware:
- 0.7mm steel wire(for aileron hinges/pushrods)
- CA glue/gorilla glue(for assembly)
- 2x 3x300mm square carbon fiber rod
- 4x M3x12mm machine screw
- 1x M3x8mm machine screw
- 8x M2x4mm screw
- 1x M3 hex nut
- CA hinges/printed TPU hinges(for elevator hinge)
Excellent flying skills!
Electronics:
- Motor: AOS Supernova 2207-1980KV or similar
- ESC: >=40A/6S(ideally with BEC or separate RX battery)
- Battery: 2-6S 300-650mAh(For 5-6S setup, multiple batteries in series would work)
- Servos: 3x CHAServo HV06H(Wing servos MUST be this servo! Other servos WILL NOT FIT!)
- Receiver: 3+ channel PWM receiver
- Prop: APC 4.5x4.1E(medium setup)/APC 4.75x5.5E(fast setup)/APC 5x11E(LUDICROUS SPEED, untested, may explode motor)
Recommended Filaments:
Wings & Tail: Anything as stiff or stiffer than PLA
Fuselage: PETG HF/PLA Tough+/ABS-GF(CF filaments not recommended because carbon fibers block radio waves)
Motor Mount: Anything that can withstand temperatures at least 80 degrees Celsius under load
Control surfaces: PLA-CF/PET-CF/PA-CF(stiffer filaments are better here)
Construction Tips:
- The M3 hex nut for wing mounting should be secured with glue as it has a tendency to fall out
- Ensure that all linkages are slop-free as flutter can cause a catastrophic failure at high speeds
- Try not to use too much glue on the elevator hinge as that can cause the hinge to become too stiff
- Use CA glue to fill in gaps in aileron hinges
- If you are not concerned about weight, paint the top and/or bottom of the wing in contrasting colors
Flight Tips:
- Set Travel LOW and Expo HIGH as controls are very sensitive at speed
- Recommended Rates: 50% high rate, 30% low rate(all surfaces)
- Recommended Expo: 40%-80%(all surfaces)
- When hand launching, apply slight right aileron trim to reduce torque roll
- Landing on pavement or dirt is not recommended as it may damage the underside and/or motor
