Bill of Materials

List other parts
  • 8mm 5V COB LED Strip x 1: Cut a 33.0 - 33.5mm segment.
  • 10x5x2mm Rectangular Magnets x 2: Dispense layer of glue, then insert. Ensure that orientation of magnets is correct. To check, stick your magnets to the rectangular magnet on your nomad. The side you want to glue in is the side that will not center itself on the Nomad's magnet.
  • Red and Black 24 AWG or smaller wire x 2: This is what I had on-hand, and dimensioned the model for
  • Solder x 1: Your choice of solder
  • Flux Paste x 1: Optional, but helpful. When soldering, pre-tin every wire, pogo pin, LED copper pad before joining with another part. Will make it easier.
  • CA Glue x 1: Your choice

Description

An upgraded version of my V1 Supernote Nomad reading light.

Differences:

  • No screws
  • Smaller LED strip segment (was too bright before)
  • More durable
  • Stronger rectangular magnets
  • Custom pogo pin housing

Use the assembly guide attached below! And don't hesitate to reach out in the comments with questions :)

Resources:

8mm 5V COB LED Strip:

Pogo pins 1.5mm barrel diameter, 3.5mm barrel + pin head length:

  • See highlighted values in last model picture for critical dimensions of pogo pins. You may use through-hole style (with stem) or surface mount style (without stem). I prefer surface mount.
  • SMT example from Amazon

10mm x 5mm x 2mm Rectangular Magnets:

Red and Black 24 AWG Wire:

  • What I used from Amazon
    • While a little more annoying to work with, stranded wire was helpful here because of tight turns in assembly.
  • Can use smaller wires if you would like

Solder:

Flux Paste:

CA Glue:

  • Whatever you like but I have Gorilla brand
