Personalized Hair Clips with Charm system – No Hardware
Not just a hair clip, but a modular charm system.

I wanted to design something clean, functional, and actually fun to use, without springs, pins, or any extra hardware. So this is exactly that: print it, open it, wear it!
The clip works on its own, but the real idea lives in the front piece. It’s built for interchangeable charms, small plug-in designs you can print, swap, and collect. Different colors, characters, icons, names, whatever fits your mood that day.
And if you want to make it even more personal… I also included my first OpenSCAD file ever, a simple parametric name generator that creates a charm with the matching plug. Type your name, export, print and done. If you find any bugs, please tell me. Since it is my first time doing something like this
This started testing the hairclip on the 15th with me and my siblings, and it’s been holding up great so far.

Important Notes / Tips
- The printing time is around 20-45min depending on charm
- Details & print quality
If you want the cleanest details (especially on the charms), I recommend a 0.2 mm nozzle.
For the best results, aim for very fine detail limits (around 0.08 mm minimum feature, depending on your slicer and printer). Smaller details can disappear quickly with a 0.4 nozzle, this is where the 0.2 really shines. I printed this using a 0.4 mm nozzle with the same settings you will use when opening the file. I did this to show the most common result, since not everyone has a 0.2 mm nozzle (pics beneth here). - I only use Bambu Lab filament
- Every charm is based on a 2.5 × 2.5 cm base plate in Fusion. Some designs extend slightly beyond 2.5 cm, while most are slightly smaller.
Removing / opening (right after printing)
The clip can feel stiff straight off the build plate, that’s intentional, so it grips well in hair.
To open it the first time, use a scraper or thin tool to gently help separate the lock. After a few uses, it becomes smoother while still holding tight.
- Using the clip (comfort note)
Be careful not to trap hair in the locking area when closing the clip, it can pull a bit if hair gets caught there. - Charm Tray
I also designed a simple tray where you can store up to 20 charms and personalize it with your own name. A clean way to keep them organized instead of losing them in a drawer.
