Hey there! :)
About some weeks ago, I saw a fashion runway with a sun & stars headpiece, one of those that are made with metallic wires and cut-outs. I loved how extra and glamorous it looked, but it was also very modern and minimalistic. So I thought, âI bet it would look even cooler if it had a sculptural designâ.
And here we are. :D
I had several goals for this design. Aesthetics, comfort, and stability. For the first one, I was envisioning an ancient queen/goddess aesthetic. A type of headpiece that you could wear on your hair as a crown, but also look... âholyâ wearing it? :)) I went for a multi-filament design that elevates the piece through various jewels, and also leaned a lot into the Victorian Gothic elements for the sculptural and glamorous look.Â
On the other hand, the size of the headpiece made me really work for the comfort and stability factor. I created various prototypes of every component and their connections to experiment with various thicknesses and designs, and see how the headpiece responds to various head movements.Â
I wanted it to be 1. comfy, 2. not to fall off your head easily, 3. be wearable for some hours without giving you a headache, and 4. be light enough, despite the large size and elaborate ornamentation. So I opted for a headband in the shape of a crown, with a wide, thin, and toothless design that is very flexible and distributes the weight of the whole headpiece evenly. I'm happy to tell you I was able to wear it comfortably for two hours during my photoshoot without breaking my neck. :D
Print Notes:
- This design comes in 5 plates with two colors. It's a multipart design and doesn't require AMS.
- I uploaded a profile with considerations for the buildplate of the A1 mini, but all components are the same if you have any other printer as well.
- Don't scale up or down the design since it might mess with the tolerances.
- Quality: 0.16 mm layer height
- Strength: 3 Wall loops, Sparse Infill Percentage of 0%
- Speed: Lower the print speed for higher surface quality.
- Supports: This design requires very minimal support generation. Enable the supports, and I suggest using the Tree type.
- Supports Painting: Block the support generation inside the top cavity of the sun. (It's already done for the profile).
- Others: Allow for the generation of outer brims measuring 5 to 8 mm.
- Wait for the print to completely cool down before detaching it from the buildplate.

Assembly Notes:
- Follow these instructions to build the headpiece in under 5 minutes!

I hope you get to print and build this, and enjoy it in your costumes and cosplays. I'd love to see your results if you do. :)
Happy printing! :) đĽâ¨
