Description

Disclaimer: this is NOT a one-click print. Please read the guide below before printing.

The Leica 14447 battery for the Digital-Modul-R (DMR) is proprietary, rare, and very expensive. I created this model to make my own DIY replacements. A USB C cutout is added on the side for charging. I had a battery repair technician installed lithium cell along with protection and charging circuit into the housing. See the model picture for reference.

I initially prototyped the design in PLA on my Bambu Lab A1 before ordering a MJF print in PA12S. While the PLA test print fit perfectly, the MJF PA12S version came out slightly thicker and requires a firm pull to remove from the DMR. This is likely because my PLA prototype printed slightly smaller than the digital dimensions.

To achieve a smoother fit, the lid thickness needs to be reduced. However, since my MJF printing service had a 2mm minimum thickness requirement, I had to manually sand the lid down.

I have included two versions of the sliding lid in this release. The thick lid version was what I sent to MJF printing. The thin lid version reduced the lid thickness to 1.5 mm and  should provide a better fit.

Personally I'd print the main housing in nylon using MJF or SLS. For the lid, it may be difficult to find a MJF or SLS printing service that can accept parts 1.5 mm thin. One possible combination is printing the main housing using MJF or SLS, and printing the lid on a home printer using a durable material like PETG or HT-PLA.

I currently don't have the bandwidth to iterate further on this project, so I am releasing the model as-is. I uploaded the .f3d file which can be found in “Download STL/CAD Files” from the green download button dropdown. I hope this provides a helpful starting point for modifications and remixes.
