🖨️ Printing notes & recommendations
All pieces shown were printed on an FDM printer, so FDM printing is absolutely possible.
However, due to the level of detail, patience and care are required, especially when removing supports 🛠️
⚠️ Don’t be discouraged if not every piece prints perfectly on the first try — with FDM printing this can happen, as many factors influence the result, including printer calibration, filament quality, and support settings.
👉 For the best visual results, it is recommended to print each piece individually.
Printing the pieces one by one improves detail quality, support removal, and overall success rate.
👉 Resin printing is highly recommended.
If you have access to a resin printer, the models will look significantly better:
- ✨ smoother surfaces
- 🔍 finer details
- 🏆 more premium, collectible appearance
These models were designed with resin printing in mind, and the visual quality improvement is clearly noticeable.
⚠️ IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE ⚠️
It is strongly recommended not to change the provided print settings,
unless you are confident and experienced with printer calibration and advanced tuning.
I personally asked for help with the settings, as I am still learning this area myself —
and the results you see in the images were achieved using these exact settings.
Since printing these pieces, I have achieved even better results, especially on overhanging parts and weapons, through further tuning and experience — so improved print quality is absolutely possible.
👉 Of course, with more experience and fine-tuning, even better results may be possible,
but following the recommended settings should already give you very good and reliable prints.
⚙️ Suggested FDM settings (used for the shown prints)
- Layer height: 0.1 mm
- Infill: ~50%
- gives the pieces a more solid, heavier feel, closer to a premium chess set ♟️
Support settings may vary depending on your printer and filament — take your time and remove supports carefully.
📏 Scale & chess consistency
For example, if you decide to swap the role of a piece (such as using the rook as a bishop), make sure to rescale it appropriately so the set remains visually balanced, and adjust the modified contact area to the critical printing points to ensure reliable printing.
❤️ For fans
This collection was designed by a fan, for fans of Game of Thrones
The goal was to create a chess set that feels atmospheric, immersive, and true to the fantasy world.
🧩 A matching fantasy chessboard designed to fit this set is also planned and coming soon.
Enjoy printing — and may your side claim victory on the board ⚔️♟️
