Description

When the BMW Lithium Iron (LiFePO4) battery that was introduced with the R1300GS range, is dead, in so much as the battery poles read 0V and the battery takes no charge from a good Lithium charger, then that probably means that the cells have been depleted to such an extent that they don't have enough voltage to power up the internal BMS.

The battery can most probably be revived by charging the cell pack up to a level where it has enough energy to power up the internal BMS.  This is done by connecting a good lithium charger (like the Optiate 4 quad program) directly over the pack (or a PSU at 12V and current limited to 0.5A).

This drill guide provides the correct place to drill through the top housing to access the positive lug of the cell pack on the BMS board.  The negative pole of the battery is the where the negative of the charger or PSU connects.

I will link a video once it is available..

Rule 1 : Don't be stupid!  Batteries are dangerous and if you don't know what you are doing or are uncomfortable with the procedure.. walk away…!
