Description

These X2D / P2S stepper motor dust covers were engineered to solve the three most common shortcomings found in other designs:

1. Secure Retention

The covers seat firmly and stay in place during operation thanks to precise dimensions and a retention tab design that prevents loosening over time.

2. Correct Clearance Geometry

Retention tabs are properly dimensioned and raised to eliminate belt interference or rubbing. The internal front section is also spaced to maintain safe clearance. The profile is carefully controlled so the cover does not protrude excessively or interfere with the toolhead’s movement envelope.

3. Thermal-Conscious Design

Unlike fully enclosed caps, these covers are vented. The motors on the Bambu Lab P2S can reach elevated temperatures, and trapping heat at the top is not advisable. The vented structure allows heat dissipation while still reducing dust ingress.

4. What They Do (and Don’t Do)

✔ Reduce debris ingress

✔ Block larger particles from entering

✔ Maintain proper belt and toolhead clearance

✖ Not fully dustproof (intentionally vented for airflow)

5. Material Recommendations

Print at minimum in PETG.

For best thermal stability, use ABS / ASA or other high HDT engineering materials.

The region above the motors experiences sustained heat exposure, and lower-temperature materials may deform over time.

6. Changelog
- v2: Tigtened the design as much as possible for better X2D clearance; pulled in the covers by 0.5 mm and thinned it to 1 mm in front, changed to chamfers instead of fillets on front edges mainly to better clear toolhead top rear screw protrusions of X2D
