Game of the Goose at the WINTER SOLSTICE

A design work that blends archaeological topography, architecture, and poetry. Game of the Goose at the winter solstice originated as a university project dedicated to enhancing the Catullus Grottoes in Sirmione, transforming the terrain relief and exhibition pavilions into a sophisticated and "branded" play path.

🏛️ Concept and Backstory

The game board faithfully reproduces the terrain of the Lake Garda peninsula, with architectural pavilions strategically distributed along the path. The game's name echoes the title of a poem that inspired the entire project, linking the physicality of the place to a deep narrative dimension.

📐 Model Features

  • Final Dimensions: Once the modules are joined, the game occupies an area of approximately 40 × 46 cm.
  • Magnetic Modularity: The terrain parts are designed to house magnets measuring 8 mm (diameter) × 3 mm (height), ensuring a solid and precise connection.
  • The Pawns: These are represented by the statues that are part of the museum display in the pavilions. Given the extreme richness of detail, these have been designed to be printed exclusively with a 0.2 mm nozzle.

🎨 Color and Material Guide

For optimal results, I recommend following the color scheme visible in the photos:

  • Terrain and Base: Textural or neutral colors.
  • Pavilions: In red (as in the presentation prototype) to highlight the architectural features.
  • Squares: It is essential to maintain a clear color distinction between the base, the squares, and the pavilions for proper game readability.

📦 Storage and Organization

The project includes modular elements designed to be inserted alongside the box, specifically engineered to neatly house the pawns (statues) and the die. To ensure that all terrain components and accessories fit perfectly and allow the lid to close, the use of a box with the following minimum internal dimensions is recommended:

  • Width: 21 cm
  • Length: 28 cm
  • Height: 12 cm

🛠️ Assembly Instructions

The model has been designed to maximize aesthetic cleanliness and definition:

  1. Printing the Squares: The squares are printed separately to allow for better color and finish management.
  2. Gluing: Once printed, the squares should be inserted into their specific slots on the game board. Use a drop of common cyanoacrylate glue (like Attack) strictly following the order shown in the reference photos.
  3. Magnets: Insert the 8x3mm magnets into the side slots to allow for the joining of the terrain modules.

Note for Makers: This project requires precision, especially in printing the pawns and placing the squares. The final result is a unique piece that brings Italian architecture directly to your game table.
