Description
Here is a very simple and basic but strong and durable box knife I designed for use mainly at home to break down boxes. Although I did test it out at work cutting nylon/fiberglass and plastic banding a bit just to make sure it is actually up to the job and it handled it no problem :) It's more than strong enough for just breaking down boxes and I can guarantee that if you use my print profile and a filament that isn't water-logged to the point of being brittle or something like that. There is no way that this blade will break unless you are really trying too intentionally.
Fits standard utility blades. Features a simple and strong magnetic clamping system to hold the two halves of the knife together, a hidden compartment inside to store extra blades as well, up to 3, an optional magnet hole in the blade compartment to keep the spares from rattling, and finally also included is a sheath to install before storing the knife to keep the blade covered. You will need eleven 10x2mm magnets in total to complete the knife. Glue them in no matter what and make sure the polarities are correctly aligned before you do. I also painted some fuzzy grip around the edge of the handle to add some more grip.
The design is very strong, but I want to still stress that this is primarily intended for cutting cardboard boxes and other light, at-home sort of tasks.
Honestly, I like a lot of the utility knife designs on here, especially a lot of the more complex versions with sliding blades, but realistically a lot of them are not very strong or very safe if you plan on ever actually using them for any real work. Plastic is plastic I'm sorry. There is a reason that we use metal for sliding blade utility knifes that you find on the shelf at home depot. Even the cheapest ones….. Not to dog on anybody but I wanted this to be actually strong and not just a skibidi looking clickbait kind of design that will just break instantly :) Just be mindful of the blade like an adult :)
There are two versions, one is a slimmer version that imo looks nicer but there is also a version with a guard available so that in the case you are worried about possibly jabbing into something on accident your thumb won't have any chance of sliding into the blade :) To be honest though you shouldn't really be stabbing anything with this kind of blade anyways, other than tape and cardboard, so if you don't plan on ever doing that like a dumb dumb then I'd just use the slim but it's totally up to you :)
This isn't some super complex design or anything, but it is strong and safe and convenient with the magnets, and I thought it looked decent for what it is :)
Enjoy! 👍
