Bambu Spool Desiccant Holder V1

This design enables easy bulk desiccant drying with a Bambu AMS unit. It fits into any standard Bambu reusable spool, to turn it into a bulk desiccant dryer. No supprts are needed.

I poured all the desiccant from a set of AMS Dry Pods into it, and 12 hour PLA AMS drying cycle took the desiccant humidity from 35% to 15%.

Use

The unit has a large opening at the top for filling, and a small opening at the bottom for emptying. Simply lay the Spool Desiccant Holder in the bottom half (the side with the refill alignment pin) of a Bambu spool. Fill the Spool Desiccant Holder about half way with desiccant, then lock the top half of the Bambu Spool in place. The top half of the Bambu spool acts as a cover, preventing any desiccant from escaping from the Spool Desiccant Holder.

Place the Bambu Spool with the Spool Desiccant Holder into an AMS 2 or AMS HT, select the PLA drying cycle and enable Spool Rotation. After the drying cycle starts, every couple of minutes the spool will rotate, and the vanes in the inside of the Spool Desiccant Holder will churn the desiccant, ensuring that all of the desiccant is exposed over the drying cycle.

To empty, lay the Bambu Spool flat and remove the top half (the Spool Desiccant Holder has arrows to indicate the TOP side). The Spool Desiccant Holder can then be removed from the Bambu Spool bottom half. Holding the Spool Desiccant Holder flat, rotate it so that the small hole is down, then tilt the Spool Desiccant Holder slowly to empty the dried desiccant beads into a bulk container.

Assembly

The Spool Desiccant Holder is printed in 2 parts (the Body and the Bottom). Align the two tabs on the Bambu Spool Desiccant Holder Bottom with the with the refill alignment pin slot on the Bambu Spool Desiccant Holder Body, and press the two sides together on a flat surface. If the two parts do not feel tight, glue them together.
