The Golden Eagle (scientific name: Aquila chrysaetos), also known as the 'old eagle', 'vulture eagle', or 'golden-necked eagle', is a bird of prey belonging to the genus Aquila in the family Accipitridae. Its body length ranges from 76 to 102 centimeters, and its wingspan ranges from 185 to 220 centimeters. Generally, females are larger than males, with females weighing approximately 4 to 6 kilograms, while males weigh only 3 to 4.5 kilograms. It has rich coloration, with dark brown upperparts; the lower body, chin, throat, and foreneck are dark brown. The head is relatively small; the talons are strong and powerful, and the tail is long, broad, and rounded.
Golden Eagles are distributed throughout the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, found across Eurasia, North Africa, and North America. In China, they are distributed in the Northeast, Northwest, North China, and Southwest regions, and are occasionally seen in East China and South China during winter. They primarily inhabit mountainous forests and grasslands, and during autumn and winter, they also frequently move to forest edges, low hills, barren slopes, and coastal areas. This bird species is carnivorous with a very broad diet.
