Technical Specifications & Printing Tips

[!IMPORTANT]

Material Warning: Do NOT use PLA. The interior of a car can reach temperatures over 70°C in the sun. For this part, ASA or ABS is highly recommended due to their high heat resistance and UV stability.

  • Recommended Material: ASA (best), ABS, or PETG (minimum).
  • Infill: 20% (Gyroid or Honeycomb for structural integrity).
  • Wall Loops: 3 or 4 for extra strength at mounting points.
  • Support: Tree supports recommended for the clipping tabs.
  • Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm for a smooth finish.

Compatibility

  • Car Models: Ford Mondeo MK5 / Ford Fusion (CD391 Platform).
  • Years: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022.

    Detail

  • 1. ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) – The Best Choice
It is the “gold standard” for 3D printed automotive parts.
  • Heat Resistance: Withstands up to approximately 95°C without warping.
  • UV Resistance: Does not fade or become brittle in the sun.
  • Appearance: Has a matte finish, very close to the original plastics in the Ford dashboard.
  • Difficulty: Requires a closed printer (P1S, X1C) to prevent warping.
  • 2. ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
Heat Resistance: Similar to ASA (95-100°C).
  • Disadvantage: Does not have UV resistance (can yellow over time if exposed to direct sunlight, although inside the dashboard it is not a major problem).
  • Price: Cheaper than ASA.
  • 3. PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) – The minimum acceptable
Heat resistance: Withstands up to about 75-80°C.
  • Risks: On an extremely hot summer day, if the car is sitting directly in the sun with the windows closed, the PETG part could soften slightly ("sag").
  • Advantage: Much easier to print than ASA/ABS (does not necessarily require a closed printer).
