Overview

This is a custom-designed case for the Raspberry Pi 4, created almost entirely by AI. I used Claude Opus 4.6 (Anthropic's most advanced AI model) for the design process and FreeCAD to bring it to life as a 3D model.

Design Process

The entire design workflow was AI-driven:

1. Design Generation with Claude Opus 4.6 I used Claude Opus 4.6 to generate the case design — dimensions, port cutout positions, ventilation layout, mounting hole locations, and overall structure were all determined through conversation with the AI.

2. Modeling in FreeCAD Claude provided the parameters and design logic, which I then implemented in FreeCAD. The AI guided the modeling process step by step.

3. Final Touches by Hand While about 95% of the design was done by AI, I made some minor manual adjustments at the end to fine-tune fitment and finish. Just a little human touch to get everything perfect.

Features

  • Precise cutouts for all Raspberry Pi 4 ports (USB, Ethernet, HDMI, power, SD card)
  • Ventilation slots / holes for adequate airflow
  • Snap-fit or screw-mount design (easy assembly)
  • Compact and clean form factor
  • Fully 3D-printable

Final Thoughts

We're living in an era where AI can design functional, real-world objects. This project is a small example of what's possible when you combine conversational AI with ope

n-source CAD tools. The future of making is here.

If you have any questions about the AI-assisted design process, feel free to ask!

As someone who's been going through my MakerWorld recommended page and trying to tune it to stop recommending me AI slop, this actually was a bit refreshing to see. There is a space for AI, and optimization for functional elements by designers who clearly label AI-generated or -assisted works AND who bother to include print profile information is much more wecome to see here than another ridiculous piece of plastic decor that is lazily generated en masse and poorly optimized for printing
