Description

Fed up with subpar monitor colors, I found myself missing the stunning 5K display of the iMac 27". Instead of just dreaming, I found a donor A2115 (2022 model) and breathed new life into it by converting it into a standalone monitor. This is a curated collection of printable parts I’ve designed and sourced to make this "dream display" a reality.

Build details:

  • Controller: LM270QQ1 Set B (purchased on AliExpress from AIBITE)
  • Audio: Treble/bass speakers crossover divider boards (purchased on AliExpress from e-qstore)
  • Power: Reused the original iMac PSU with Micro-fit Molex MX3.0 cable for internal power
  • Cooling: Original iMac fan, now managed via DC PWM controller for custom speed
  • Webcam: Integrated a standard USB camera from Amazon into the original housing
  • Controls: The original power button is wired in parallel with the controller's switch
  • I/O Panel: A custom-printed RAM door replacement houses the new controls and provides cable passthrough
  • It was also needed to buy a new LCD display adhesive strips for iMac to assemble it back

The result is a sleek, professional-grade 5K display that works flawlessly. The original PSU and fan keep it running cool and quiet. Finally, a display that’s actually worthy of a workspace!
