Modular Filament Dry Container
Modular 1 kg spool container designed for controlled humidity storage
The system is entirely 3D printable and requires no screws, glue, or hinges
All components are interlocking

🧩 Print Compatibility
All components are designed to be printed on 220 × 220 mm build plates
🧩 Modular Structure
Base + Bottom Separator
The bottom separator interlocks directly with the base and creates the dedicated compartment for silica gel
This keeps the silica separate from the filament spool, ensuring air circulation and easy removal for maintenance
Optional Central Container
Usable in non-vacuum mode to increase the amount of silica and improve internal humidity stability
It can be installed or removed based on the desired configuration
🧩 Usage Modes
1️⃣ With vacuum bag
The silica in the bottom compartment acts as additional protection in case of micro-leaks or frequent opening
2️⃣ Without vacuum
By using the TPU O-ring and silica system, the box functions as a humidity-controlled container, significantly reducing exchange with the external environment
3️⃣ Advanced Configuration
It is possible to use both the bottom compartment and the central container to maximize absorption capacity
🔒 Locking System
Base and lid mate via mechanical pressure fitting
During closing, it is necessary to apply pressure until the classic “clack” of plastic locking systems is heard
The auditory and tactile feedback confirms that:
- the interlocking is fully engaged
- the compression is correct
- the O-ring (if installed) is in place
If the “clack” is not heard, the container might not be completely closed
The key is used solely as a lever to facilitate opening, avoiding forcing the walls
🏷 Labeling
The front slot accepts 76 × 52 × 1.2 mm labels, ideal for indicating:
- Material type
- Brand
- Color
- Other
🧠 Design Philosophy
The project was developed with FDM logic from the modeling phase
Geometries, interlocking parts, and tolerances were designed to:
- ensure assembly without external components
- maintain mechanical stability over time
- simplify printing and maintenance
The entire system functions exclusively through geometric interaction between the printed parts
⚠️ Slicing Note – Plate n°3
A warning regarding missing supports may appear on plate n°3
The warning is due to an overhanging wall not recognized as a bridge by the slicer, but the component is designed to be printed correctly without supports
⚠️ Technical Note – Seal
The container is designed to significantly reduce humidity exchange, but it is not a certified airtight or vacuum container
As with any FDM printed object, a minimal permeability of the material and layer lines may be present in the long term
