🇫🇷 Description
This bust represents Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg based on his most widely circulated portrait in historical iconography. The face is built with clear and structured volumes: a focused gaze, a calm and thoughtful expression, a characteristic long beard, and typical 15th-century European headwear.
The forms are intentionally simplified and organized to ensure strong sculptural readability, emphasizing primary masses over secondary details — consistent with a classical bust designed for 3D printing.
The frontal pose and discreet pedestal reinforce the timeless character of the portrait: the goal is not to idealize the figure but to convey his presence and identity.
The figure
Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1400-1468) invented movable-type printing in Europe.
His major work, the famous Gutenberg Bible, marked the beginning of the mass dissemination of written knowledge. By making books reproducible quickly and on a large scale, his invention transformed education, culture, and the spread of ideas, paving the way for the Renaissance and the Reformation.
This bust is directly inspired by the most iconic depiction of Gutenberg — the image that shaped the collective perception of the father of modern printing.
