Description
This is a mounting solution for the Avid Aqua InSight aquarium monitor. This is my original concept and design and is in no way sponsored by or directly affiliated with Avid Aqua.
It is designed to be a flush mount dry wall installation and requires competency and knowledge in basic 120v AC wiring and electrical outlet installations. If you don't have these skills, I recommend watching a bunch of YouTube videos and rolling the dice with your foot in a bucket of water or donating a six pack of beer to your buddy the electrician. Basically we are installing an electrical box, and 15 amp rated outlet using 14 ga nmb romex style wiring. Assuming you don't botch the necessary cutting of the rectangular hole in your wall, this should not require any mudding, taping, sanding or painting if performing it on an existing finished wall.
This will give an elegant flush mount to the Insight, hides any wires and eliminates the need for a DC wall adapter which is less than space saving. With this configuration you will not be able to utilize the 120v plugs on the outlet. It is solely intended to power the device. If there is enough interest I can make a side by side configuration that would allow full use of the outlet and all it's power options.
Included are the .step files (cuz .STL files are stupid) required to print all the necessary components to complete this installation beyond the outlet and a couple standard fasteners. I have also included some .3mf files that I got good results with in producing this product.
Below are the additional components you'll need to put this all together.
120v 15 amp Legrand USB Outlet
Actually any 15 amp USB outlet should do if its around 43mm x 68mm with a standard outlet mounting hole spacing of 84mm. If you have something different or want to use something different just print the internal bracket and hitch it a ride in your pocket to your local hardware store to gauge the fit. In either scenario, we will be breaking off those mouse ears with a pliers and using only the center slot to screw into the internal bracket.
Screws
#6 Sheet Metal
4 - 1/2" Long (for the internal romex clamps)
2 - 1 1/2" Long (for the drywall clamps)
Magnets
12 - 20mm x 5mm x 2mm
They actually measured on avg around 18.9mm x 4.65mm x 1.8mm
these might be it...
the electrical box takes two stacked per pocket and that cavity measures 19.1mm x 4.8mm x 3.8mm
The cover plate uses one magnet per pocket and that cavity measures 19.1mm x 4.8mm x 2.2mm
Have fun and feedback is welcome as it always helps me consider better or alternative approaches in future efforts.
