Description:

Magic Spring is a fun and smooth 3D printed spring inspired by the classic slinky toy. Its clean spiral design makes it satisfying to stretch, compress and play with, while also looking great as a desk decoration or stress-relief toy.

 

The model is optimized to print without supports, making it an easy and clean print. It looks especially impressive when printed with rainbow / multicolor filament, which highlights the shape and movement beautifully.

 

Crucial Printing Instructions

This model relies on tight tolerances. To ensure the coils don't fuse together, please follow these steps:

  • Calibration: Your printer must be well-calibrated (specifically Flow rate and Pressure Advance) to prevent the layers from fusing.
  • Build Plate: The bed must be thoroughly degreased (wash with warm soapy water and wipe with IPA). Perfect first-layer adhesion is vital for these thin rings.
  • Filament: Use high-quality, bone-dry filament. Wet filament causes stringing, which will fuse the layers and ruin the "magic."

Rubbish! It printed massively and didn’t even print in the tray. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone as it is a huge waste of filament. Disappointed

I recommend carefully reading the model description before printing, as it clearly states the important settings required for a successful print. From the attached photo, it is evident that this is a typical print failure: Model detachment from the build plate – the model came loose during printing and the nozzle continued printing in the air (“spaghetti failure”). Additionally, the photo shows extremely thin and irregular strands. Such fine “spaghetti” is not typical of a normal print issue but is more commonly associated with low-quality filament that has inconsistent diameter or poor material uniformity. This leads to unstable extrusion, fluctuating flow rates, and weakened print structure, which can easily result in the model detaching from the build plate. The result shown in the photo therefore does not indicate a design flaw, but rather an issue related to filament quality and print setup. I recommend checking filament quality, first layer calibration, and proper bed preparation
