Description

Parametric Hose Barb Adapter - Inch or Metric IDs

This is a parametric hose barb adapter designed for 3D printing with clean hose connections, high strength, and support‑free printing. Enter the tubing inner diameter (ID) for each side in millimeters and the model automatically generates:

  • Proper barb geometry for retention and sealing
  • A strong center body with wrench flats
  • Smooth transitions that print cleanly
  • Correctly positioned for print with larger bore down

Ideal for air, water, coolant, aquarium, and general tubing projects where you want a printable alternative to store‑bought barbed fittings.

Key Features

  • Parameters:
    • First_Side_Diameter_mm (tubing ID for one side)
    • Second_Side_Diameter_mm (tubing ID for the other side)
  • Prints vertically without supports, but brim is strongly recommended
  • Wall thickness is derived from the hose size and barb root diameter to resist:
    • clamp pressure
    • insertion forces
    • pull‑off loads
  • Each barb includes a short straight section near the base so hose clamps don’t sit on a taper/transition.
  • Body hex size scales with the barb size
  • Bore transitions are tapered through the center section and are sized to preserve reliable wall thickness near the smaller side.

How to Print

Print vertical with the larger barb down for best bed contact and strength.

Supports not required, brim highly recommended

Recommended settings:

  • Layer height: 0.20 mm (0.16 if you want extra clean barbs)
  • Walls/perimeters: 5–7
  • Infill: 40–70%
  • Brim: recommended (especially on smaller barb tips)

Materials

  • PETG (recommended): good toughness, good layer adhesion, resists cracking under clamp load
  • ASA: better heat/UV resistance (outdoor use)
  • Nylon (PA): maximum toughness (dry filament strongly recommended)

This model is intended for hobby and general utility use. Always test for your specific fluid, pressure, temperature, and clamp type before relying on it in a critical system.
