Description

The kkStB class 429 locomotives (also 429 for SB and BBÖ, later ČSD 354.7, PKP Ol12, DR and ÖBB 35, ÖBB 135, MÁV 323.9, FS 688 and JDŽ 106) are steam locomotives with a towing tender designed for hauling medium-heavy passenger trains on difficult and long lines with difficult gradients. This series belongs to a family of four locomotive series from the design office of Karel Gölsdorf. In addition to the 429 series, this group also includes the 229 (ČSD 354.0), 629 (ČSD 354.1) and 329 (ČSD 354.6) locomotives, which thus share a number of design elements and are of similar proportions. Between 1909 and 1918, 386 of these locomotives were produced in three production series by various Austro-Hungarian locomotive factories. After World War I, they were in service in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Yugoslavia and later in Germany.
