Description

This is an ultra compact case for a garage door opener case to stick to the back of your screen and save you $340. I used the smallest form factor 315/390 MHz (Genie, Overhead Door, and maybe more brands) garage door opener I could find online and made it smaller and super sleek.

If you want to make this, it is very easy. Order this garage door opener from Amazon (affiliate link) and pull apart the bulky body. Print this really simple model, and bob is indeed your uncle. Use supports to print the top part, then stick your circuit board in there between the two pieces. I used super glue to attach the bottom part of the case to the top part.

I printed this out of black PLA, and in this 100º Arkansas summer, it has had no issues so far over the past month. Maybe over time I will need to reprint it in some gray ABS.

Note: I initially had put this device at the bottom of my screen, behind the “car options” button on my model 3's screen. This gave me awful range for opening my garage and I needed to move it to the top of my screen instead. It is more noticeable, but not bad. If it ends up bothering me, I'll reprint in gray filament instead.

This model almost looks like a car. Someone with more time that I could make this case look like a model 3 where the button is you pressing down on the hood. That would be a sick remix.

this did not print well for me at all, any advice on how you printed it? when I auto arrange it tries to print it at a 45 degree angle and fails

if you look closely at the picture of it I posted, you might be able to tell from the layer lines on top which surface is on the bottom, but basically, the inside of the part where the electronics would go is gonna be a complete overhang and need supports all in there.
