Description

This model was extremely difficult to put together, but I am happy with the final product. A little about the process in case you want to do something similar.

First for a model like this, I work with AI (creating this without AI would not be possible for me, certainly not within any reasonable time frame). While AI solves a lot of problems, it introduces different ones. To get this model to work, I had to use multiple AI tools and create alternate angles and versions which I took the best bits from to make the final model (Hitem3d is really fantastic). I could never get the original hair to work, and ended up scraping it to replace it with a new set of a hair. The main problem with the original hair was the big goofy bow(?) that was inconveniently the exact same color as the hair. The hands were also a nightmare, as AI is not trained on robot hands extruding from the wrists of human hands. The model was also fairly dark so there was some creative interpretation of the body. When it was fully printed and cleaned up the first feedback I got from my youngest son was “why is the tongue so long?”. I like the long tongue, so I told him to deal with it.

*Edit*
My son told me yesterday that his friend really wanted the Cynessa model… But he wasn't going to give it to her as long as it had the long tongue. So I updated the model and added a version with a shorter tongue and flatter eyes. You can see the two versions here:

**EDIT**

I added one with a bow.

I included a picture showing the support situation for this model, it isn't good, and will take some time to work through. Because the hair, the tongue, the arms and legs are all pretty delicate, you will need some patience to remove the supports. I probably spent 10 minutes on this and got a near perfect outcome. I would highly recommend some needle nose pliers and sharp knife.

In addition to this model, I have created the other main characters for Murder Drones. I hope you enjoy them as well, links to their profiles are below:

I really hope you enjoy this model. I probably went through 20 variations and spent 10's of hours cleaning it up and trying to make something I was proud to share.

Some thoughts on AI as a design tool.

This is a complex subject and I could probably write pages on it. But I will give my brief thoughts here:

  1. AI needs to serve man. I believe that human creativity needs to be central and that the magic of AI is that it builds on that core to empower us to create things which would not normally be possible.
  2. AI is here to stay, if you don't embrace and learn how to use AI as a tool to expand your capability, you will miss out and find yourself competing with those who do.
  3. For a broad set of creations (this model included) the audience isn't that interested in the creators artistic interpretation, or even the amount of hours invested. What they want is simply a good product. In the case of models like this, insisting on a human sculpted version may simply mean you get no product at all.
  4. When I do a design using AI, I will almost always do it in a plain color (like white). My hope is that this enables me or others the opportunity to make it our own as we paint it and add our interpretation to it.

You can check out my other designs at my homepage here: https://spencermann.com

It is a work in progress, but I hope to provide more information about my models, and some tips if you want to create your own.
