🇫🇷 Description (French)
This bust depicts Leif Erikson, an iconic Norse explorer from the Viking Age, recognized as one of the first Europeans to have reached the North American continent, nearly five centuries before Christopher Columbus. It is inspired by the most popular representation of the character, widely disseminated in the collective imagination, where Leif Erikson appears as a determined, robust man looking towards the horizon.
Son of Erik the Red, founder of the first Norse colonies in Greenland, Leif Erikson is best known for his voyage to Vinland, a territory that historians today associate with certain regions of present-day Newfoundland, Canada. His expedition testifies to the extraordinary mastery of navigation by the Vikings and their ability to explore distant lands under extreme conditions.
This 3D printed bust offers a faithful sculptural interpretation of this historical figure, highlighting distinctive features and a sober expression, symbols of courage, endurance, and adventurous spirit. The deliberately classical approach aims to pay homage to Leif Erikson's Viking heritage while emphasizing his major role in the history of great explorations.
