CL-1201 thus had a payload capacity of approximately 5440 tons and 2 million cubic feet of storage space.The ideal complement of parasitic fighters was 24 F-4 Phantoms, with 11 attached under each wing and another 2 directly attached to the fuselage underside. All the additional ammunition and fuel for these aircraft was, of course, carried by the mothership. Moreover, in non-critical situations, it could be easily operated by just 475 crew members. If expansion were necessary, the crew size would only increase to 800, which is far more economical than any aircraft carrier with the same payload capacity.
