Description

This model was reprinted and optimized after an initial failed attempt.

The goal was to reduce support damage—especially in the hair—while keeping detail intact.

This second attempt came out significantly cleaner, with only 3 small hair pieces breaking during removal (glued back easily).

A full support removal video (~20 min, fast-forwarded) is linked below so you can see exactly what you’re getting into.

🔧 Key Print Adjustments (Non-Default)

Orientation

  • Manually tilted ~20° backward (negative tilt)

→ Reduced hair supports and prevented a solid “helmet” of support under the head

Layering

  • Adaptive layers enabled
  • Ironing ON for top solid surfaces (helps smooth visible areas)

Supports (Main Changes)

  • Support type: Tree (Slim)
  • Placement: Build plate only
  • Threshold angle: 45°
  • Support critical regions: ON
  • Remove small overhangs: ON
  • Tree branch diameter: 2.0 mm
  • Tree branch distance: 6.0 mm
  • Support XY distance: 0.4 mm
  • Top Z distance / interface spacing: 0.7 mm
  • Top interface layers: 2

👉 These changes dramatically reduced how much support fused into the hair.

Bed Adhesion

  • Plate wiped with IPA
  • Bambu clear glue used
  • Outer brim set to 8 mm for stability (important due to tilt)

No speed changes were made — all print speeds remain default.

🖨️ Printer / Profile Info

  • Profile includes a saved 0.8 nozzle preset
  • All support and orientation changes are saved in the project
  • Just enable adaptive layers and print

🎥 Support Removal Video

Removing the hair supports is tedious.

I documented the full cleanup process on YouTube so you know what to expect:

🧠 Final Notes

  • This is still FDM—hair will always be the hardest part
  • Printing upside-down or alternative orientations may work better for some users
  • If you find a cleaner setup, please share it — learning as I go
