Description
Precision Circle Cutter (2mm - 50mm)
Get perfect circles with this high-precision cutter! Designed for model enthusiasts, crafters, and projects requiring millimeter accuracy.
This design allows cutting circles from a minimum diameter of 2mm to a maximum of 50mm. It includes a locator ("Locator") for easy centering of your cuts and options to use different blade types.
🌟 Key Features
- Cutting Range: 2mm - 50mm.
- Dual Versatility: Compatible with standard utility knife blades (45º/60º type) or Roland plotter blades.
- High Precision: Designed to be printed "by object" to prevent misalignment and ensure a perfect mechanical fit.
- Non-slip Base: Prepared for adding EVA foam or rubber to the base.
🔩 Bill of Materials (BOM)
To assemble this cutter, you will need the following hardware items:
Common Hardware (Required for both versions):
- 1x Bearing: 6812-2RS (60x78x10mm) - The heart of the mechanism.
- 2x Screws: M3 x 18mm + 2 M3 Nuts.
- 2x Screws: M2 x 22mm + 2 M2 Nuts.
- 1x Screw: M2 x 12mm.
- 2x Magnets: 3x2mm (For the blade holder cubes. They prevent the blade from falling out over time). If you use the ones from makerworld, place two in each part.
- 1x Magnet: 5x2mm (Inserted inside the threaded cap during printing - Requires pause).
- Non-slip Material: Double-sided tape + EVA foam or rubber (to glue to the base and prevent shifting).
Option A: Plotter Blade Version (Roland)
- Blade: Standard Roland plotter blade (45º).
- 4x Bearings: MR52ZZ (2x5x2.5mm).
Option B: Utility Knife Blade Version
- Blade: Piece of standard utility knife blade (60º or 45º).
- Note: This version DOES NOT require the small MR52ZZ bearings.
🖨️ Print Settings
To ensure the precision required for cutting 2mm circles, follow these recommendations:
- Layer Height: 0.16mm (Standard quality profile).
- Perimeters/Walls: 2 lines.
- Infill: 15% Gyroid.
- Print Mode: "Print by object" (Print sequence: By object).
- Important: Do not print all parts layer by layer at once. Print them object by object to avoid any small nozzle misalignments (stringing or blobs) that could affect the smoothness of the mechanism.
Print Pauses: Remember to add a pause at the corresponding height of the threaded cap to insert the 5x2mm magnet before the top layer closes, the same for the cubes that hold the utility knife blades. These two pauses are configured in the print profile for plate 2. One pause at layer 22, approximately 23 minutes, and the second pause at layer 41, minute 26.
Check the magnet polarity before continuing printing.
- Suggested Materials: PLA (Red, Gray, Black, White).
🛠️ Assembly Tips
- Blade Magnets: Insert the 3x2mm magnets during the print pause in the blade holders. Initially, the blade holders might be a tight fit, but they are essential for keeping the blade in place long-term when adjusting the height of the blades or the plotter needle.
- Bearing Fit: The large bearing (6812-2RS) should fit snugly. If your printer has over-extrusion, you might need to lightly sand the inner edges. Additionally, to facilitate assembly and final adjustment, 4 holes are generated in the outer parts for inserting M2x12mm screws for full adjustment. With a well-calibrated printer, these screws are not necessary. The tolerance is calculated for a perfect fit.
- Base: Don't forget to glue the non-slip base; it is crucial for the center to remain stationary while you rotate the outer ring.
