Description
AIM-9L Sidewinder – Scale 1:48
This model represents the AIM-9L Sidewinder in 1:48 scale. It was developed as a display and collector's model and is specifically designed for use with COBI aircraft models in the same scale
The focus is on a coherent external shape and realistic proportions, while the details have also been optimized for reliable printing on common FDM 3D printers. This creates a balanced compromise between appearance, stability, and printability
Two Connection Variants
The model includes two different versions to allow for better compatibility with various COBI aircraft:
- Clamp Connection – optimized for jets like the Tornado, where the missile is clamped laterally
- Standard Connection – suitable for aircraft like the F-18, where the missile is attached via a classic pylon
This allows the appropriate version to be chosen depending on the aircraft type, to ensure the most coherent and secure mounting
Optimized for COBI Compatibility
During development, special attention was paid to ensuring the AIM-9L integrates well visually and functionally with COBI aircraft models. It is ideal as an addition for displays, dioramas, or for completing modern jet models
Background: The Real AIM-9L
The AIM-9L Sidewinder is an air-to-air short-range missile used on the wings of modern fighter jets. It has a slender, cylindrical shape with distinctive control surfaces at the front and rear. These striking external features have been accurately reproduced in the model
Support Removal
I would advise you to cut the main stem first, then carefully remove the rest
Model Creation
This model was developed as an independent project and fully optimized for 3D printing. Special emphasis was placed on correct proportions, good printability, and the most suitable integration with 1:48 scale aircraft models
