Rummikub XXXL (for Elderly and Visually Impared)

Accessible Oversized Rummikub-Style Tiles

I designed these tiles for my grandpa last Christmas. Rummikub is the only game he can still play, but even the original XXL tiles had become difficult for him due to low contrast, small numbers, and reduced dexterity in his fingers. Now he can still play daily with my grandma even at 91. 

I set out  to create tiles that really work for his challenges especially, so I focused on finding the right balance between size and playability. The numbers are as large as possible while still being easy to handle, and I added bold black outlines and large color areas to make each tile clearly recognizable, even with poor eyesight.

The stand prints in parts to minimize waste. I wanted high contrasting lines on the stand to easily see where to put the tiles. I've also designed a tray that can be magnetically attached to the front for the beginning phase of the game in cases where the stand can get crowded and to avoid tiles falling from the edge of the table.  

I recommend printing the tiles with high infill to give them a bit of weight, which makes them feel more stable and easier to handle. For the colors I recommend PLA matte/wood/CF to reduce the glare.
