Description (FR)
This bust of Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen pays tribute to one of the most influential figures in polar exploration and early twentieth-century humanitarian history. It is inspired by the most widely recognized photograph of Nansen, the image that has firmly shaped his public identity: a determined face and a direct, thoughtful gaze, reflecting both the boldness of the explorer and the discipline of the scientist.
A pioneering Arctic explorer, renowned oceanographer, and Norwegian statesman, Nansen is best known for his polar expeditions, particularly aboard the _Fram_, as well as for his humanitarian work following the First World War. As High Commissioner for Refugees for the League of Nations, he devoted himself to aiding displaced populations, earning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922. This bust offers a faithful sculptural interpretation of his features, aiming to convey the moral strength, courage, and humanism that define Nansen’s enduring legacy.
